Behind Closed Doors: Understanding and Supporting Those Who Have Experienced Domestic Abuse – 7 1/2 Hours

Training Partner: KRASAC
“Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre is an intersectional feminist organisation; registered charity, No. 1205126, that offers specialist therapeutic and advisory services for people, aged 13+, who have experienced rape, sexual and domestic abuse, at any time in their lives, living in Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield.”
Learning Outcomes:
- Recognise the Forms of Domestic Abuse – Develop attendees’ awareness of the various forms of domestic abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial abuse.
- Explore Coercive Control – Deepen attendees’ knowledge of coercive control, its signs, and the profound impact it can have on survivors’ autonomy and mental, emotional and mental health.
- Understand Forced Marriage and Honour-Based Abuse (HBA) – To be able to identify the characteristics of forced marriage and “so called” honour-based abuse and understand the cultural and societal factors influencing these forms of harm.
- Examine the Impacts of Domestic Abuse – Explore how domestic abuse affects mental, social, and emotional wellbeing, relationships, overall functioning in survivors. Also, develop awareness around the coping mechanisms survivors adopt to survive.
- Introduce the DASH Risk Assessment Model – Learn how to use the Domestic Abuse, Stalking, and Harassment (DASH) risk assessment model to identify and evaluate the level of risk in cases of abuse.
- Build Confidence in Identifying and Responding to Abuse – Enhance attendees’ ability to recognise signs of abuse and use professional curiosity, provide appropriate, empathetic, and effective responses to individuals in need.
- Foster Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Safeguarding Strategies – Develop skills to collaborate effectively with other professionals and organisations, ensuring robust safeguarding measures are in place for survivors.
Domestic Abuse and Male Victims – 3 Hours each day

Training Partner: The Mankind Initiative:
The Mankind Initiative is the principal, expert and specialist charity in the UK focusing on male victims of domestic abuse.

Important information:
** Learners must be able to commit to both sessions in full within the chosen cohort before applying for a place.
Delegates are expected to attend both sessions in their chosen cohort in full to obtain CPD certificate of attendance. Failure to attend both sessions may result in a charge being made to the learner’s organisation.
A Zoom registration link will be sent to delegates in advance of the training. It is vital that delegates register to the training link when received in advance as you will not be able register on the day.
To reduce disruption to other learners latecomers will not be admitted to the online room after the training has started (unless pre-arranged). Failure to attend due to lateness may result in a charge to the learners organisation.
Working with Perpetrators – 7 1/2 Hours

Training Partner: Cranstoun:
Cranstoun are advocates for interventions for people displaying abusive behaviour and for educating people using harmful practices to transform the way that they engage with relationships, in a way that centres the safety of the survivor and a belief in the possibility of behaviour change.
Learning Outcomes:
This course provides participants with a deeper understanding of how to work with perpetrators. It will upskill frontline practitioners and give them the confidence to hold perpetrators to account.

Training in Development: Domestic Abuse Related Death Review Online Briefing
This session will give an overview of Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews (formerly Domestic Homicide Reviews) and disseminate learning from recent reviews.
Learning Outcomes:
- Outline the purpose and process for conducting DARDR’s
- Provide learning from recent reviews and exploring emerging themes

Domestic Abuse Act 2021

This is a recorded briefing by the Wakefield Strategic Domestic Abuse Team, delivered as part of the Safeguarding Week in 2022.
Forced Marriage

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) – Recognising & Preventing FGM

Courses are free for the statutory, voluntary and community sector in Wakefield, however failure to attend without giving prior notice may result in a charge to cover costs.
